Senior Mechanical Engineer

Windmill is seeking a mechanical engineer with medical device R&D experience to assist in the design and manufacturing of the TORVAD implantable blood pump.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct design reviews and risk analysis of the current TORVAD system and direct design modifications
  • Plan and execute the design, manufacturing, assembly, and testing phases for custom devices
  • Design and maintain 3D solid model files, engineering drawings, and documentation describing the manufacturing and assembly processes of the TORVAD pump
  • Identify manufacturing processes from prototype to product and define output specifications
  • Develop tolerances and test plans that meet design input and output specifications
  • Work with suppliers to coordinate the manufacturing and assembly of the TORVAD device

Qualifications

  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3-8 years-experience in medical device R&D
  • Proficient in SolidWorks, engineering drawings, and GD&T
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes (CNC machining, wire EDM, grinding, 3D printing, and polishing) for various medical device materials (metals, ceramics, magnets, and plastics)
  • An understanding of medical device quality regulations and standards
  • Willingness to travel to manage supplier relations (<10%)
  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to tackle projects independently and also work collaboratively with a small engineering team

Senior Electrical Engineer

Windmill is seeking an electrical engineer to develop electronics and software for control and monitoring of the TORVAD.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, prototype, and layout PCBs
  • Develop embedded software for control, monitoring, logging, and communications.
  • Develop unit testing framework, static analysis, and automated hardware testing
  • Participate in regulatory activities such as design reviews, risk analysis, FMECA

Qualifications

  • BSEE with 5+ years of experience or MSEE
  • Self-motivated, ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Experience with PCB design, electromagnetics, embedded system software, ARM microcontrollers, bare metal, RTOS, version control system
  • Familiar with lab equipment such as oscilloscope, digital logic analyzer
  • An understanding of medical device quality regulations and standards
